Literally the day after I post about my reading time being drastically hindered by the burden of adulting, the southern East Coast is thrown into a game of Duck Duck Goose with Hurricane Florence. So as we wait for this storm to make us all homebound for an indefinite amount of time (allegedly), I’m devouring print and audiobooks in equal measure and creating my October spread for my Bullet Journal. How’s that for productivity?

                                                                           How I missed hurricane season…not.

If anything was going to take my mind off of the flip-floppy nature of this storm, it was definitely this book. I got it on audio from my local library using Overdrive and it…was…hilarious. I highly recommend the audio version, but I’m betting the print version is equally entertaining.

The third book in The Devil Wears Prada trilogy, When Life Gives You Lululemons is like a hybrid of The First Wives Club, Fitness Junkie, and Bridget Jones Diary all rolled into one laugh-out-loud, this-is-absurd-but-I-know-rich-people-do-this-crap, chick-lit masterpiece.

From surviving the extremely posh, yet bizarre suburbanite culture of Greenwich, Connecticut, to the most ruthless and cunning way to outplay an underhanded ex-spouse, there are catty, girl-power vibes seeping from ever sentence.

Ever heard of vodka-soaked tampons? Baby viewing parties? Customized va-jay-jays? Probably not, so if anything this read was highly educational. Housewives of Greenwich 101, if you will. Most of it’s probably hyperbole (probably), but it’s much more fun to pretend this is how the One Percenters live.

Queen Goldie in one of the all time best chick flicks, The First Wives Club…it was a book first of course 🙂

The book follows Emily, Karolina and Miriam; three women floating in similar socialite circles of LA, NYC and Greenwich and coping with various problems in their personal and professional lives.

Emily, a celebrity stylist and consultant, finds herself floundering unhappily in La-La Land, losing clientele left and right and missing the grit and attitude of NYC. After being summoned to the Big Apple by a potential heavy-hitting client facing a serious scandal, only to have the opportunity ripped from her hands by the new “it” girl in the consulting game, Emily slums it to Greenwich to stay with her long-time friend, Miriam and her family, in the hopes of getting her mojo back.

Miriam, a now stay-at-home mommy to three children, is also in a slump. She’s no longer working as a big attorney, she feels unsexy and overweight, and she hasn’t been properly intimate with her husband in months. Not to mention she’s having a hard time making friends with the Stepford Housewives of Greenwich and finds herself lacking the same enthusiasm for day-drinking and  plastic surgery. Emily’s presence in her home is equal parts relieving and exasperating, but undeniably entertaining.

Karolina, a former super model originally from Poland but now married to a US senator, is caught in a bind. Unjustly pulled over and charged with DUI and child endangerment on New Year’s Eve, her life begins to fall completely apart. Instantaneously, she finds herself alone in her plight; her friends have ostracized her, her lawyer is playing chicken, and worst of all, her husband has abandoned her side and has taken their son away in the process.

Together these women create a game-plan to get Karolina the justice she deserves, help Emily climb back up to the top of her game, and make Miriam rediscover the sexy, powerful lady lawyer she is.

Seriously, this book was sending out #youdontownme feels. Yaaas, queens!

This was a 5 star book for me. Uncomplicated, absurd, and hysterical. If you’re looking for something light and funny, here it is:

As always, share how much you loved it!
